Hiring a Software Team in Bangladesh: An Honest Guide

ARTICLE OVERVIEW
We're a software team in Dhaka, so we're biased. But founders ask us the same questions about working with a Bangladeshi team, and the honest answers include the downsides too. Bangladesh has a large, young engineering workforce, strong English in the tech industry, and a growing number of teams building products for clients in the US, UK, Europe and the Middle East. The main reason founders look here is cost: you can usually get senior-level engineering for a fraction of US or UK rates. The second reason is time zones. Dhaka is GMT+6, which overlaps comfortably with Europe and the Middle East, and for US clients it means work moves forward while they sleep.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The downsides are real and worth planning for. Live overlap with the US west coast is short, so you need a fixed daily window for calls and good written updates the rest of the time. Quality varies a lot between teams, as it does in every country, and the cheapest quote is rarely the cheapest project. Communication problems usually come from unclear requirements on both sides rather than language. And a few teams overpromise to win work. The way to manage all of this is the same anywhere: start with a small paid project, look at real shipped work you can open and use, talk to the engineers who will actually do the work rather than only a salesperson, and agree on how progress will be shown, ideally a working build every week or two.
METHODOLOGY
When we start with a new client, we agree on three things up front: a written scope with what is in and out, a fixed weekly update with a demo link, and a daily overlap window for questions. We use the client's tools where possible (their Slack, their Jira or Linear, their GitHub) so the work is visible, and the client owns the code from the first commit. That setup removes most of the risk founders worry about, and it is worth asking any team you consider, in Bangladesh or anywhere else, how they handle the same three things. If you'd like to see how we work, our portfolio has projects you can open and test, and you can book a free call to talk to the people who would build your project.
